A Year in Review

Shaping the Future of Optometry

This year, we welcomed students from the University of Houston College of Optometry (UHCO) into our practice for hands-on internships.

It’s a great opportunity for these students to apply what they’ve learned in the classroom to real world patient care, gaining invaluable experience in everything from eye exams to managing complex ocular health issues.

We were thrilled to have worked with UHCO students Lexi Temple, Kha-Vi Khuu, Sarah Mitchell, and recently graduated Dr. Adrian Velasco.

We love being a part of their journey, offering guidance and support as they gain confidence and experience before stepping into their professional careers.

Their enthusiasm and fresh perspectives make our team even stronger, and we take pride in helping to guide the next generation of optometrists.

CooperVision’s Myopia Management Summer Program

We also had the pleasure of hosting Sarah Mitchell, a first year UHCO student, into the CooperVision Myopia Management Summer Program.

Throughout the program, Sarah dove into the world of myopia control, gaining hands-on experience with innovative treatments like anti-myopia contact lenses and ortho-k therapy.

It was exciting to see her grow in this specialized area of optometry, and we’re proud to have contributed to her journey as she builds her expertise in myopia management.

Myopia Management in Focus: Scholarly Pursuits

In 2024, Dr. Wong had the privilege of participating in several scholarly activities. One highlight was a lecture on

Custom Orthokeratology presented at the Vision by Design Conference in Dallas.
The lecture explored the latest advancements in custom ortho-k treatments, focusing on their role in myopia management and patient care.

Additionally, Dr. Wong had the opportunity to present a poster at the American Academy of Optometry Conference (AAO) in Indianapolis, sharing his myopia management research with the broader optometric community.

We are dedicated to staying up-to-date with the latest in optometry and playing an active role in shaping the future of the field.

In 2025, Dr. Wong will present a lecture at the Global Specialty Lens Symposium, focusing on optimizing ortho-k lens design and function for improved myopia control.

Clinical Studies

At Vision One Eyecare, we’re excited to continue our involvement in the MiSight clinical study, which focuses on using innovative soft contact lenses to help slow the  progression of myopia in children.

Dry Eye Treatments: Intense Pulsed Light + Radio Frequency

We’re excited to introduce a new treatment for dry eyes that combines Intense Pulse Light (IPL) and Radio Frequency (RF) therapy, under the expertise of Dr. Tracey Wong. This innovative approach targets the underlying causes of dry eye by improving the function of the oil glands in the eyelids and reducing inflammation.

IPL uses gentle light to improve inflammation within the diseased oil glands, while RF therapy helps improve oil flow as well as the tone and function of the surrounding tissues, leading to better moisture and comfort.

Together, these treatments provide a non-invasive and effective solution for those dealing with chronic dry eye symptoms.
